That time of year again, I see Cannoli Send a noteboard - 20/04/2026 10:50:12 PM

The hot rumor is that Harbaugh loves Jeremiyah Love, the running back from Notre Dame. Many Giants fans fans on social media support this enthusiastically. They argue that combining Love with Dart and Nabors will give the Giants a triple threat offense.

Maybe I’m crazy but wasn’t that the same rationale for adding a back named Barkley to Eli and OBJ? How did that work out? Multiple playoff victories, amirite?

Everyone remembers Aikman, Smith & Irvin. What they forget is that Dallas had Nate Newton (1986), Kevin Gogan (1987), Mark Stepnoski & Steve Wisniewski (1989) and Erik Williams (1991) throughout their early 90s dynasty. All five went to at least one Pro Bowl, and while Gogan left after the second win, that year they drafted Ron Stone, and Larry Allen the following year, following Stepnoski's departure. They built a strong line, and were doing so before acquiring any of their famous trio of ball handlers, and continued maintaining the line as their string of degeneracy and officially-sanctioned dirty play remarkable and not all media inflated success continued.

I also feel compelled to note that these acquisitions of the core of their championship happened under two different owners, two different front offices and three different head coaches. Despite the criticism Jerry Jones received for his cleaning house upon assuming ownership and the undisputed ego issues at play, I notice that neither he nor Jimmy Johnson, felt compelled to jettison the roster Schramm & Landry were building to make the team their own.

Picking Love would be Giant business as usual. Something different would be trading back for as many extra picks as possible. Or picking a defensive player, like Styles, Reese, Bailey, or Downs. Maybe an OT. Any of those would be refreshing for a change.

Needless to say, I don’t expect it.

Well, despite having two quality (I assume, given the pains Schoen took to acquire them) pass rushers already on the roster, they drafted Adbul Carter with the 3rd pick last year, and their pass rush so dominated the league that every QB played NY with a brown stain on the seat of his pants from the 1st possession on. Sometimes even just in warmups.

So with Tyrone Tracy & Cam Skattebo forming such a promising RB tandem, in addition to the highly-prized Devin "Money" Singletary, whom Schoen & Daboll were so excited to get on "Hard Knocks," you'd have thought Saquon Barkley was averaging 8 fumbles a game, I imagine that we would have similarly spectacular success with Love in the mix. Probably 5K yards on the ground this year!

The interesting thing is what they are going to do with the #10 pick they got from trading Not-So-Sexy Dexy.
