From this past Friday night:

“Trump is so mad at Canada, he renamed Lake Ontario Lake America… Liberals are very pissed at this. They say you can’t just go around renaming to suit your political agenda. Just ask any Latinx birthing person.”

I mean, I still say DoD (my wife is a civilian contractor for the Army and THEY have to say Department of War) and Gulf of Mexico, and I didn't stop saying Mt. McKinley when Obama changed it to Denali. I'm always going to call it Mt. McKinley. It's hard though, to take objections to renaming things seriously when the Left does it maximally. There's not a whole lot to like about Trump, but for sure actions like this are. Let's get everyone on the record here: is the act of changing a long-standing name for political reasons good, or is it bad? It can't just be good when my in-group does it and bad when my out-group does it.

We can have a rule like "It's cool to have a landmark with no particular name re-named after someone who is liked locally" like Nashville Airport is about to be re-named Dolly Parton International, and Houston's Airport got re-named after George W. Bush. Maybe these are edge cases, since Sam Houston and Francis Nash existed. But I think it's fair to say that the Nashville and Houston airports got their names from the name of the cities, not directly from the people the cities were named after. Nobody said "We should name this the Nashville International Airport after Francis Nash" but instead it was "We'll name this the Nashville International Airport because it serves the city of Nashville"

On the other hand, this is the silliest thing to fight over and the easiest change to erase when the other side takes control again.

Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion.
