But I'd rather not go into that. The message of attack did not contain any specifics as to what the beast was. It just says that I was attacked by a large beast. Vicious. Oh, and it did cause multiple deep wounds if that is anything, but I survived.
Werewolf (Role)
A Werewolf is a member of the werewolf faction, featured in Werewolf games. However, games with both Mafia and Werewolves (serving as a second mafia faction) as Informed Minorities have been played on MafiaScum: Mafia #19 is a good example.
One occasional variation is that the Werewolf Faction is actually a cross between the Mafia and the Cult, starting with one player and recruiting (biting) others, while also killing.
My major concern here is that you're not really an obvious choice for a doc to protect, nor particularly to be NK'd, you were very low profile yesterday, also our alleged main bad guys are the Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot Monkey Clowns, none of those 6 are likely to be described as a large beast who leave deep wounds, but they are presumably the NK faction if we only have one. Multiple deep wounds from a large beast, which you survived but won't say how, smacks strongly of werewolf, and it would be very easy for me to see this game having a DF faction and werewolf cult/killer faction.
Regarding recruitment/werewolf - well that does sound interesting, but if it were true, then there is no reason for Napoleon to mention it, is there? In doing so, he would be labeling himself anti-town, so it's probably not that.
I agree that Napoleon didn't make much sense as a doc protect target, but it does have people talking and it may have worked out well for us. As for being an NK target... well, who can really say why the DFs kill anyone in particular on Night 1? They chose to roleblock Fanatic-Templar, which makes sense since he already hinted at being a role (and thus probably most likely to be protected?)
So, I think there are 3 situations basically:
1. Napoleon was protected by a doc
2. Napoleon has a bulletproof role
3. Napoleon is making up the whole story
I don't particularly like #3 - seems too much of a gambit for a DF. So, really it's either 1 or 2. I do have a proposal though:
Since bulletproof ability is usually a scum one, would it make sense for a doc to claim, if they didn't protect Napoleon? Obviously, if they did, they could just stay silent and keep hiding. If the doc didn't protect Napoleon, then isn't there a good chance he's bulletproof or making up the story? The doc would probably die soon after, but it would get a DF.
Well, I have to dispute 2 and 3. First, bulletproof is usually a town role, not a scum one, they do sometimes get it in three faction games otherwise DFs don't get bulletproof, a bulletproof character has no particular reason not to claim once attacked. As for 3, well, I could easily see someone who had been attacked by werewolf - or who attacked someone as the werewolf and converted someone - claiming this for the cover. Yuna, fist and I once deliberately didn't use our night 1 kill as DFs specifically to fake a blocked attack on myself. It's also possible but not too likely that he was werewolfed but won't join the faction until the next full moon, so to speak, Night 2. To be honest, he could be as he claims and I may be biased because he keeps pressing a vote on me without evidence, but the odds involved? No, I can see the DFs deliberately picking random for their target to foil the doc, but IMO that actually raises his odds of being selected for doccing to 1 in 14, assume 3 DFs and the odds of that block are 1 in 14*11, 1 in 151, with no other factors to indicate a decrease. It's certainly possible, but so far when we've had no Night 1 kill we've had things that made it not too much of a coincidence at all. When the odds are less than 1%, it is easier for me to believe something murky went on, not a doccing. He may be immune to conversion, the odds of that if a cult leader is in play are fairly decent, but I think we have to assume 'werewolf' is the most plausible scenario. Large beast that seriously wounded him with deep cuts, not quite as ironclad as 'two small holes in my neck' but fairly solid.
Now, we've got lots of options, but let's try these two sinister scenarios and some others.
1) Napoleon was attacked by a werewolf and converted - Claiming to be attacked and surviving it, when no bodies are present, is a fairly logical tactic, it prob-towns you - see game RAFO Mafia in Space. IF the werewof is third faction, it also protects him from NK, because the DFs would be more inclined to think 'ah, bulletproof' and not use the kill, perfect third faction cover.
2) Napoleon himself is a werewolf cult leader/killer, and attacked someone. What would you do in his shoes? Lots of options but claiming to be attacked makes a lot of sense. Decent tactic, as always, proof something is a good tactic is if others find themselves saying 'Oh, that makes sense, I believe that'
3) Less sinister, he may be immune, bulletproof, etc. But he has no particular reason not to claim this and it would give us valuable information.
4) The beast which attacked him is no werewolf, now my quick scan down the settings - which are hardly guaranteed to be accurate - shows no other settings with prominent bad guys of the large and beastly variety, but that doesn't mean I didn't miss one or that bad guys gave true settings.
