Mainly due to the way that she asked Desmond if he was going to take her son away from her. She needed a reality were she didn't sacrifice her son and force him to be a physicist, quashing his other talents (like music).


I rather think it is Daniel who created this protective/supportive version of Eloise. His loveless mother, the absence of any real family in his life, is one of the "demons" Daniel had to let go of (especially after the circumstances of his death). The estrangement from everyone his genius had brought, too.

I think Eloise's remark had more to do with Desmond's own fears/doubts about "moving on", that he wasn't taking anyone away from anyone by doing what he was doing. He wasn't taking Daniel away from Eloise anymore than he was taking Jack away from his son.
