See, I don't really get why people think it's about money. In the case of the theatrical 3D release anyway. One thing Lucas certainly doesn't have to worry about is money. I honestly believe he is a tech freak and fascinated with new possibilities and how could they be used to enhance the experience of the films.
In the case of DVD, he had originally said he was never going to release them on DVD. They weren't released until... I think it was a couple weeks before Revenge of the Sith came out, wasn't it? Yes, he has more than enough money. But in the case of Star Wars on DVD, don't you think that's the best method to make the most money on it? Wait until everyone and their mother can't wait for it?
But I agree with the "tech freak" when it comes to Blu Ray and 3D.
I am glad I still saw TESB and ROTJ back in the day
