What I love is that Vader spent his whole life doing evil and when he dies he gets to go on as a young and handsome ghost. Yoda and Obi-Wan have been honourable and good for decades but they stay old and decrepit. If that isn't an incentive for the Dark Side I don't know what is.
I don't think that's how it works, or that the ghosts (have to) worry much about an older or younger appearance
As I said below, I think the reasoning is that Anakin as the person he was ceased to exist when Christensen played him and he turned to Vader. But I also miss the kind, old face of Sebastian Shaw who made Vader's dying scene such a classic.
I always felt that Christensen was one of the worst miscasts in movie history. He didn't fit the Vader persona at ALL. To see him prancing around on Endor was the final deathblow.
