... when 3d is done correctly, it produces a literal physical feeling of euphoria. I think this feeling makes people think 3d movies are so much ... "more" .. than they are. Avatar is the perfect example of this phenomenon. You could sit in a 3d theater just watching properly made 3d commercials and get the same high as a 3d film. (Not dissimilar to getting a thrill from a rollercoaster or thrill ride).

Also, part of the reason why we see so much 3d is also that Hollywood pre-planned for it -- years ago the top studio guys were saying 3d was the future and greenlighted all the films we are seeing now long before the audience endorsed 3d with last year's Avatar release.

For what it's worth I'm not a fan of 3d movies -- just putting my analysis out there.
