I like range. I think that's why I love Ed Norton, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Ralph Fiennes, etc.

It's fun to be surprised, but I do agree that it seems like they are trying too hard when they take someone like Ford and put him into a really evil role.

Along that same line - I don't think you'll see Torres as weak, dear. It can also be a mistake to put people outside their natural inclination. I have a feeling she's a really feisty person in general.
