I sense a few amazon.com orders coming soon. Vodalus Send a noteboard - 19/11/2010 06:20:53 AM
92 Ghost In The Shell (Japan)

86 Run Lola Run (Germany)

82 Battle Royale* (Japan)

Unfortunately, I read the book first. The movie was a major disappointment, devoid of almost all the humor and the wonderful little mindfucks that made the book shine.

77 House of Flying Daggers (China)

70 Hard Boiled (Hong Kong)

69 Ringu (Japan)

Saw this in Japan when it first came out. Probably creeped me out more than it did my girlfriend.

66 Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (China)

51 Akira (Japan)

Interesting start. Then it just gets bizarre.

31 Godzilla (Japan)

28 Raise the Red Lantern (China)

25 Das Boot (Germany)

20 Y Tu Mamá También (Mexico)

14 Three Colours Trilogy* (Poland)

I picked up the trilogy on sale for $25. While it wasn't a waste of money, I really should've spent it on something else. Pretty woman in each one, though. And all French, I think.

7 City of God (Brazil)

5 Pan's Labyrinth*

Saw this not too long ago. Loved it.

2 Amelie* (France)

Along with P&P** and Bend It Like Beckham*, this is a great flick for when I'm in need of a warm fuzzy. And no, I'm not gay.

1 Seven Samurai* (Japan)

Empire's 100 Best Films of World Cinema Legolas - 31/08/2010 02:50:01 PM 1784 Views
As for my quibbles with the list... Legolas - 31/08/2010 03:01:43 PM 1153 Views
Since it's "World Cinema," does that automatically exclude U.S. films? *NM* Palatine - 31/08/2010 05:51:00 PM 547 Views
It usually means non-English language films *NM* snoopcester - 31/08/2010 06:36:34 PM 523 Views
Not only that, it also seems to exclude British, Australian and other English-language ones. Legolas - 31/08/2010 07:57:19 PM 1006 Views
No one minds Australia's exclusion. All they make is bad Jackie Chan films. *NM* TaskmasterJack - 31/08/2010 10:55:18 PM 422 Views
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert would've been a shoe-in otherwise... *NM* Legolas - 01/09/2010 12:14:28 AM 441 Views
And after somebody brought up Requiem for a Dream in the other thread... Legolas - 01/09/2010 02:15:51 PM 996 Views
Hey I've only seen 21 ironclad - 31/08/2010 03:40:54 PM 1058 Views
My opinion of their list rose by a fair bit when I saw La vita è bella was not on it. Legolas - 31/08/2010 07:56:15 PM 1043 Views
What exactly is Battle Royale doing there? Lordling - 31/08/2010 04:07:46 PM 1161 Views
Juno is Canadian-American though. ironclad - 31/08/2010 07:40:20 PM 1071 Views
I'm quite surprised to see that La Vita e bella (Life is Beautiful) isn't on the list. *NM* Missa Sedai - 31/08/2010 04:51:53 PM 707 Views
Me too. Pleasantly surprised. *NM* Legolas - 31/08/2010 07:57:47 PM 530 Views
Really? I thought the movie was fantastic and well-made. *NM* Missa Sedai - 01/09/2010 12:36:05 AM 541 Views
In fairness, Roberto Benigni being an overrated ass doesn't mean his only good film isn't good. Legolas - 01/09/2010 01:01:21 AM 1074 Views
We may have to fight, now. Camilla - 01/09/2010 10:47:45 AM 1023 Views
