I've watched some TV shows in HD a few times, but I can't see any major differences that make me say, "Holy shit! That's so much better than standard definition!" The only differences that I've seen are the picture is brighter and the volume is lower. What's the big deal?

Yes, I do have the HD channels, and, yes, I'm sure I was on the HD channel. I'm sure that my TV is an HDTV also. It's an LG 37LD450- 37 inch High Definition 1080p LCD TV.

As pretty much everyone else has already said, you really should notice the difference from 480 to 1080. Your TV is (likely) not the problem... it could be something wrong with your cable, not sure. Or as MightyYT said, maybe the shows you're watching don't really have noticeable differences between 480 and 1080 (like South Park... the difference is not going to make you say 'whoa'. But still, for most shows, especially on a 37", you should be able to tell the difference fairly easily.

Can you tell the difference between, say, Blu-ray and standard DVD?


I don't feel like running out and buying a blu-ray player. My DVDs work perfectly fine to me. Except those that are scratched, and I have stuff to fix that.
