Except Ned's 7 lost 5 to 3, and Ned would have died against the Sword of the Morning if it had been one on one. None of which implies he sucks but doesn't exactly make him fantastic either. The key point is that Jaime's prowess is an important character and plot point and Ned's isn't at all, and this fight isn't going to make Ned look good- it's going work with Brienne to make Jaime incompetent and thus his story silly

Quite an interesting episode. Two action

packed scenes with the Mountain and the Hound squaring off as well as Jaime and Ned going toe to toe. And we were introduced to the Knight of Flowers, Renly's "special friend".

I have to say the Mountain looked much more imposing this episode off his horse swinging that gigantic sword. It was a pretty sweet bit of special effects when he slice the horse's head off.

The scene between Jaime and Ned was awesome as well.I can't say much more than that; this episode was the first real action of the season. Can't wait for more!

I didn't think so. I think it massively glorified Ned in a role that his character neither fulfils anymore nor needs and makes people's later fear of Jaime and in fact most of his future character arc a bit silly. Bed doesn't need to be an amazing swordfighter in the story. Jaime does. It's a huge part of his character and some people have actually thought that Ned was winning the fight, no matter what the writers tried to put across. Which will either involved demonstrating that Ned is a ridiculously awesome fighter, which they can't do, showing Jaime kill a lot of very skilled warriors, which they will struggle to do, or have Brienne and Jaine seem ridiculous, and Jaime's interactions with characters later seem ridiculous and generally involve a lot of suspension of disbelief or new scenes to make up for the fact they wanted Ned Stark look good with a sword. Other than that I thought it was fantastic. But that is a huge point with consequences that will occur books later.

I was surprised how fast and furious they came on with Renly and Loras's relationship. Maybe they need to to set it up so Renly's motivation for the throne later is clear when it happens.

Oh and Kat's sister (forgot her name) was totally like I imagined reading the books. What a lucky kid that got cast for that role if ya know what I mean! :winky:

Pretty sweet episode all around.

He and I think 6 others squared off against 3 of the most legendary Kingsguard, including Ser Arthur Dayne. Ned and Howleed Reed survived. So I think Ned was a pretty good fighter
And the answer came to her instantly: pride. Oh, you hear them say it's a sin; you hear them say it goes before a fall. the shepherd prides himself on keeping the wolf out from the flock. We pride ourselves on making a good history of our lives, a good story to be told.
