Mostly because I was first exposed to them in used-books stores in Southeast Asia, when there'd be like, 30 copies of the damn things on the walls, taking up space for other stuff.
Everyone keeps saying they're good, though, and I heard the movies were good too... maybe I should read the books, watch the foreign movie, then watch the American one.
