Re: Wouldn't be so sure of that dacole Send a noteboard - 14/06/2011 01:50:22 AM
We just finished watching 5 minutes ago. My gf is still in tears, mumbling "but...but he's the main character."
I see the same reaction from a few facebook friends. People still expect TV shows to cast the famous names for the main characters that survive ;)

Even in the book, it was hardly such a surprise... The book is a long foreshadowing that Ned is doomed, like Jon before him. The tone of the series (even by that point) is realistic and bleak, you don't expect many will get as lucky as Tyrion at the Eyrie, and the storyline of Asoiaf is pseudo-historical. It's a genre in which the deaths of important players is required to move plot along by reshuffling the board.

I agree. While reading I also wasn't as shocked, as much as I had hoped that he would make it out alive somehow. I always took the series to be more of a "how the Stark kids survived without their dad" kinda story.

Heh I was hugley suprized and had the reaction like that of your girl friend...but but...he is the main character...DAMN THAT TOOK STONES. Then I rushed out and bought the second book.
