Really?? Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 15/07/2011 05:26:25 PM
And didn't his sacrifice somehow make it easier to kill the snake or something? I think I remember his death having more meaning the book, if I am not mistaken.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but Snape sacrifices himself in the book to convince Voldemort that by killing him he's removing the last obstacle to the power of the elder wand, and will thus be invincible. That's why Voldemort no longer felt it necessary to protect the Nagini-horcrux at that point, his crucial mistake. Snape gave up his life (instead for instance of half-lying to him that he didn't disarm Dumbledore but doesn't know who did etc.) so Voldermort would throw caution to the wind, thus buying perhaps the only chance for Harry to destroy the then overprotected Nagini and face a Voldemort unaware he isn't invincible.

I have read the books several times and never once did I get the feeling that Snape was sacrificing himself. Just think about it logically for a second. Snape was practically begging Voldemort to let him go look for Harry because he needed to tell Harry everything. HE HAD NO IDEA HARRY WAS THERE WATCHING WHEN HE DIED! So, no, Snape did not sacrifice himself. It was really a stroke of luck that Harry was there when he died (and also a plot contrivance).
