The beginning was quite slow. Darth_Katie Send a noteboard - 05/09/2011 03:24:00 AM
It felt clunky and I didn't have any emotional investment in it. With about ten minutes to go I said to my brother that I thought it was going to be a double parter because i felt there was so little development and movement of plot in the opening half hour of so. The ending felt like something of a cop out, basically the entire thing can be summed up as "parents should look after their children better/more". So very tv movie of the week.

I thought the The Curse of the Black Pearl Spot and Victory of the Daleks were worse though. Both of those felt way more contrived and artificial.

And I don't think that was quite the moral of the story. I thought it was pretty clear that the parents loved their son very much, they just didn't know how to help him. For me, the plot between the pirate father and son was way less engaging and more forced than the father-son relationship in this episode.
