It doesn't ruin a thing. Of course it doesn't save a thing either if the movie is crap. Which this one won't be. 3D will help feel more immersed into middle earth, no more, no less.

Why would I want to sit through a movie with those stupid glasses on my face when I don't wear glasses and am therefore unused to glasses? It completely pulls me out of a movie to have to continually adjust the glasses trying futilely to make them comfortable. Screw the 3D and stick to a good/great 2D movie and I'm MUCH more likely to buy a ticket and watch the movie. The movie theaters near by wait almost 2 weeks to show the big movies in 2D when they are available in 3D.
I really hate color in movies. Color has ruined movies, and so has the sound track. Why can't we just go back to the good old days of silent black and white film. Screw technological progress. I don't want to be distracted from what is on the screen by the sound of people talking, or all those vibrant colors that only serve to draw your attention away from the action.
