Am I the only one who really hated the depiction of the Others?

Others are inhuman, terrifying creatures who are almost elemental in nature. And wights are ferocious, terrifying monsters.
In the show, "White Walkers" are wannabe Nazgul. And wights are apparently straight out of Night of the Living Dead. That doesn't look scary. That looks cliche.
