Plenty of people use weapons and violence and are portrayed as good guys. Most nations are founded on violence, and for the most recent this inevitably means guns.

Police and the military are based around the notion of legitimised violence, and almost always also includes guns.

And that's to say nothing of things like the nuclear bomb ending the Pacific War. You'll not have to look far to find people defending that.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
