I liked it. There are some nitpicks, but overall it is enjoyable beetnemesis Send a noteboard - 14/12/2012 04:50:28 PM
I mean, of course there are nitpicks:

It's a bit slow to start off, the Radagast stuff feels a little weird, there's some stuff that could have been left on the cutting room floor.

But for all that, once it picks up, the movie stays pretty exciting. Radagast is on screen for maybe ten minutes, total. Yeah, it probably could have been cut down to 2 and a half hours and not lost anything, but whatever.

I enjoyed it- Bilbo is excellent, and the dwarves are pretty neat (although there's no way in hell I'll be able to differentiate them more than "That's the smart guy," "that's the wise cracking guy," and "that's the fat guy."

There are other nitpicks- the dwarves seem to run away a lot, there aren't any women barring an elvish coffee pourer and Galadrial- but they're not a big deal.

The 48fps thing... I am not a fan. It didn't make me hate the movie, but it definitely didn't make it any better. Everything looked like it was being recorded with a video camera.

The 3D was fine, but again, I think it would have been just as fine without it.

Oh, and the Gollum sequence was excellent- an excellent blend of menace and humor.
I amuse myself.
