It was intended to be humorous and poke fun at ourselves as much as you.

View original postIf you want people to actually pay attention to your review, you might not want to start it out with a snarky comment directed at a large portion of your audience.
After all, for all that Europeans moan and complain about American cinema or its censorship standards, they still watch it in great numbers - and aren't nearly as liberal about such things as they like to think, in any case (I for one go on later in the review to say that I understand those censors in this case as it really is unusually explicit).
But okay, I may have missed the tone I was going for - or it may be more obvious to Europeans who would be more familiar with these sentiments and the feelings of frustration and jealousy that are mixed up with what may or may not be serious points about confused priorities. I'll see if I rephrase it in a more successful way.
View original postAnd yeah, I know you think it's okay to do because you're "right" and all, but I'm just going to point out that I went into this review interested in what you had to say, got pissed off at the first paragraph, and didn't read further because I no longer cared about the review because I was annoyed with you. And while I'm sure you don't care about how I feel, I'll bet you do care if people read your review. Maybe you'll get more of them to do so if you don't start it off by being rude.
Certainly I care how you feel. I think you know me well enough to believe me when I say I don't usually write posts that intentionally insult people, or at least not without provocation - least of all, as you say, in a review that's supposed to make people interested in a movie.

No. "Puritan prudishness" characterizes much of America perfectly. Leave it in.

Either way though, it caused the thread to derail into quite unintended directions.

I think it's silly and thin-skinned to get offended at statements of the obvious.

The point is that people should just say what they mean.

Either way, you guys, the point of my review was that this was more than just a sex movie.

Well, a few more movies like this and he'll have a reputation that allows him to act that way.

I seem to recall the author of the graphic novel, Julie Maroh, also criticising the sex scenes
