View original postDragons don't NEED anything to be what they are. They can be wingless for all I care. (Glaurung was wingless.) Oriental dragons are depicted without wings, and sometimes limbless as well. To me, the requirements for dragons are more fluid. As long as they are great, fire-breathing serpents, I'm fine with anything.

But when I'm led to believe something is a dragon with four legs, that is what I want it to be. Tolkien had other dragony things in his stories, including some w/o fire, but Smaug (in my head) has always had four legs. Thus far, I haven't liked most two-legged representations, so I'm disappointed. I will hold back real judgment until I see for myself.
View original postSmaug looked every bit the dragon in the movie. He had forelegs and hind legs, and the wings just happened to be attached to the former.

View original postAnd I've always thought wyverns were dragon-like creatures with a barbed tail like a scorpion.

Drawings of them typically have two wings, two legs and a tail (often with a curl in it - very wyrmy) that ends in a point like an arrow.

Sorry, two-legged dragons are just goofy, even if they did the best they could with that limitation - 13/12/2013 11:13:34 PM 952 Views

I don't care whether dragons have "hands" or not, as long as it meets all other draconic reqs. - 15/12/2013 02:16:15 PM 997 Views
