I wonder if that surprise is because they are going completely off the storyline, and thus future seasons will not be spoilers for the books.
I've watched readers on the internet merrily spoiling the series for only-viewers for four years now, and been worried about the backlash against our group hitting me with the same thing once the show moved into new territory.
