Yes, the plot is simple, predictable and ideological

but it does not detract from the depth of the world created, the message of the movie (however cliche), and the sheer factor of enjoyment in watching the movie.
Accuse me of being shallow and simple minded if you will. Not every movie has to be deep and mind boggling. Avatar was plainly made to entertain and carry simple messages blatantly enough for your average (as opposed to well-read and deep thinking) movie go-er. It does that and it does it well.
And you know what?
I just plain had fun watching it. It was a wonderful escape and yah I had to "Wake up" (see what I did there?) to the real world, but for a couple hours, I got to be completely immersed in a totally awesome world where horses had six legs and I could mentally communicate with them. As a horse person (who rides dressage!!) that one piece of awesomeness holds such joyful implications for my imagination that it alone can redeem the movie in my eyes.
Avatar gets a nice solid thumbs up from me.

Avatar is basically Return of the Jedi, at least the part on Endor. But less militarily plausible

Predictable with a tired & preachy plot. (spoilers) Also, the ending was completely ludicrous.
