I think there's still a lot more to learn about the alternate timeline:
Sun and Jin aren't necessarily married: no wedding bands. They may just be working together for Sun's dad. Jin appears to be in trouble for trying to sneak past customs.

Desmond is married - wedding band - possibly to Penny, possibly to what's-her-name girl who he was engaged to and fled to a monastery from.
