If they aren't candidates, I don't think he has to evaluate them before going all SMOKEY HULK SMASH.

On that note, did we see Ecko's name in the Number Cave or on the Lighthouse Wheel? If Smokey can't kill 'proper' candidates, then I'm probably using the wrong term for Eko.
The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.
