not to take up for the whiney bastard... but he did protect them darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 13/05/2010 03:47:24 PM
I was under the impression that he'd come to help Egwene, not serve her.

Egwene was a bit like this back in LOC - a loose cannon who didn't understand self-control and the importance of orders and rules, but she's grown up a lot lately. She's irritated Gawyn has not. Bryne, who trained him as a boy, thinks much the same of him, incidentally.

I've actually liked and defended Gawyn for the longest time, but he really annoyed me in The Gathering Storm. I think it's rather despicable how he just abandons his responsibilities and duties to the Younglings and never spares them a second thought afterwards.

He not only refused to give up their location to Bryne, but he spent time convincing Bryne that they were no danger with him gone since it was Gawyne's personal knowledge of how Bryne operates that made the unit effective. He also made a point of telling Bryne that they are little more than children.

I still hate that he abandoned them, but once he did he made at least a little effort to protect them.
