Perhaps the DO is like the Gholams, immune to the One Power. Ordinary OP flows might just melt at contact. Meaning that Lews' flows were something special, which they obviously were, since they were used to imprison Shai'tan.
Perhaps the DO was so much more powerful at the end of AoL that he was capable of such a feat, and is not yet strong enough to do so.
Those are the first explanation that came to mind, I'm sure there are better ones. Obviously the DO is not capable of tainting the OP at the moment. The Cleansing would have been a very small, momentary setback at best if that were true. And he WAS pissed off that the Cleansing was a success. Mesaana knows exactly how displeased he was for losing the very great advantage of tainted saidin.
Also, I don't think that it can be assumed that the DO didn't know he could taint the OP until he was about to be sealed, because, like the creator, he exists out side of time. This means that he would remember from the previous turning of the wheel when he was sealed by the Dragon.
Long story short, I didnt like the explanation of the taint on saidin.
Who knows what he remembers and what he doesn't? Your fact sounds more like a guess to me.
