I agree! This was the only think that stood out as being off in TGS for me.

So I'm glad BS is aware of it! Overall, I think TGS was a great addition to the series, so I don't begrudge BS this tiny detail at all. But I just felt that Mat was a bit silly. (For example, making up bizarre, overcomplicated back stories for everyone before they entered the village.) Mat's always been a joker, but he was never silly in my eyes.
