Fain and Slayer RandAllThor Send a noteboard - 07/07/2010 08:47:48 PM
Fain is probably just hunted by the Super Darkhound Pack (and likely Slayer) and will be killed soon (this scene will probably told by Slayer, who will then reveal that he killed the traitor Asmo as well). Fain's wildcard role is played, IMO. To give Fain yet another power base that late in the story doesn't make much sense.

Seems doubtful to me. RJ didn't initially envision revealing Asmo's killer in the books, and this scene would strike me as too obvious a possibility that he would have had to disregard. I also can't imagine Mordeth's role as a third force or a Rand-Fain confrontation of some sort, built up since TEotW, not playing a role in the Last Battle.

I'm not sure what having Slayer dust Fain off would accomplish more generally. If anything, it would resemble a certain scene in the last Dark Tower book that I and many other readers found unconvincing (which isn't to say that it couldn't work just as unconvincingly in this series, of course).

Fain playing a significant role in the LB would too much allude to LotR, IMO. *NM* - 07/07/2010 11:28:29 PM 584 Views
