I just think with Lan we've been beat over the head with it so much. He's on a mission to die fighting the shadow. He knows he's going to die. He's dead already. blah blah blah. I just don't see it as RJ's style of foreshadowing. It seems more to me like like RJ was going to have fun by making happen the opposite thing that Lan expects to happen. He'll die old in bed. Then Nynaeve will marry some really hot guy whose face isn't made of jagged mountain peaks.
