the DO asked him to see if he was baffled, or disturbed by the request. The DO wanted to use Balefire to continue the effort in disrupting the pattern, unraveling if you will. It would fit the same vein of letting the lord of chaos rule, copious amounts of disarray and destruction would help lead to the pattern unraveling and thus the DO's release upon the world.
