there's a duo of masculine types Yunalesca Send a noteboard - 05/09/2010 01:29:41 AM
It has been discussed on this board and the wotmania MB & TP in great detail how Rand's love interests fit the famous trio of feminine archetypes (Maiden, Mother and Crone), but what is the masculine equivalent? I would assume that RJ, particularly with his mythological references in mind, would have made some effort to maintain such a pattern, if there is one generally accepted, so how do Rand, Mat and Perrin fit into it? And if it can be expanded into a quartet of archetypes as the female set usually can, which character would be the fourth? Lan? Thom? Loial? Moridin? Is the last a trio unto himself (Ishamael, Ba'alzamon, Moridin) or could be taken to represent the stages of some grim progression of mental and moral degeneration in each of his identities?

What do we think?

the holly god and the oak god. the holly god is the younger aspect and the oak god is the older. at Beltane (start of summer) the two fight each other. if the holly god wins then summer comes.

interestingly they are actually the same person which could apply to Rand and LTT.

plus there's the Christian holy trinity...
