That sort of thing would stand out like a signal fire to many hidden DF, and I have to think that AS are quicker at figuring these things out than other folks.
Like Rugby said, only 3 or 4 escaped from Egwene's camp.
As to how the tower BA found out, there were a thousand novices, and some accepted. It could easily have been one of them. There might have been one who watched one of the AS weave a gateway and learned how to Travel from them. She could have gone to the tower and come back without Sharina noticing her absence. I don't even remember the MoN's name 'cause she doesn't count
