The way that Mesaana could've avoided the oath is simlpe : she is supposed to swear that she is either (don't recall the wording) Not a Darkfriend or Not of the Black Ajah. And to either of those questions she can simply say no since she is of the Chosen. The questions/oath should ask "Do you serve the Dark One" or some such.


She could potentially say "No" to even that question if she managed to perform sufficient mental gymnastics. Remember, the forsaken don't serve the "Dark One", they serve "The Great Lord of the Dark". There are so many ways that Mesaana (or other really clever BA not discovered by Verin) could have slipped through. It has been said again and again that the oath against lying is full of holes. Mesaana would likely know a lot of them.
