I didn't like the way most of those plot resolutions happen Zeratul Send a noteboard - 05/10/2010 11:30:12 AM
I had almost given up hope that the series will get a high quality conclusion after the subpar books 7-11.

I can understand ACoS through COT - especially COT, but KOD had Mat married, Faile rescued, Rand lose a hand, Egwene win over the novices and Elayne get the throne - multiple plotlines finished or pushed significantly. Perhaps not quite as much as TGS, but not that much less IMO - and with RJ's subtleties with it.

Most of those resolutions felt forced and disappointing to me and relied too much on what I like to call "plot induced stupidity" - people behaving way out of character so the plot can move along. Like Elayne taking only a few channellers out of the numerous ones she had at her disposal when she went to the Black Ajah hideout.

The pacing was off too, first half was almost nothing happening, and then it seemed like Jordan finally decided something has to be resolve here at all costs and "bang" - most storylines ended with big resolutions, which felt a bit forced and rushed to me despite all the pages of setup.

Oh, and I didn't like that we got a confirmation of Moiraine coming back, I had my pet theory she'll stay dead (sorry, Moiraine fans, nothing against her, she's way cool, but I would've liked at least one main good character to die before the Last Battle). The whole "Thom, don't show the letter to Mat until he asks you to" deal was too contrived too IMO.

Just my 2 cents.
