Maybe as a repeat offender yes, but as the average citizen would be scared of getting an ageless face and would thus be less inclined to commit a crime that would lead to binding. I guess its akin to if you know your hand will be cut off for stealing, will you steal? Some people still might, but others will think twice I suppose.

Knowing that you'll get an ageless face might've been more akin to knowing that you'll have a better chance to get lung cancer and die if you smoke. It's not a very frightening possibility, an ageless face, is it? No matter how serious the consequences are, you still might not _get_ it beforehand. Threat of mutilation seems way more extreme, yet even that didn't create a peacuful society, far from it.

Anyway RJ said in one of his answers that the face requires more than one Oath (if I recall it correctly). Therefore an ageless channeler is a very serious criminal with more than one serious violation. Even Semirhage was listed to be bound only once.

Well..I didn't recall this. It changes things a lot, making this whole discussion a moot point. What could have been so much exponentially worse that more than one oath was required? Wouldn't the extra oaths have been implemented just out of spite? I mean, the standard version is "I won't do [insert crime here] again." What else could there be?
