If someone doesn't like that, they can go out and start a blog and do their best to provide clear and precise reviews of hundreds of books in the genre, get noticed and have the opportunity to be asked to write advance reviews without spoilers.

Larry signed a confidentiality agreement that he breaches at his peril. It would probably be the end of getting advance review copies of books and certainly would damage his reputation.

He went a lot farther than he probably felt comfortable to let people know, essentially, that they are only going to wait two more weeks (strike that, 13 days) to find out Asmodean's killer, not some 18 months. I'm wondering if Demandred's identity is also disclosed but I'm sure as Hell not going to ask Larry at this point after the shitstorm that got stirred up as a result of him trying to give us a bit of info without breaching his agreement.

If the result is that he sounds cryptic, then well, I guess we have to wait a while. 99% of us, if not more, will likely survive long enough to read the book.


I have signed a NDA once and that was honored. This was much more informal and I thought I'd do like last year and give the vaguest of impressions and that be that but I slipped somewhere. If there are consequences in regards to review copies from one publisher, it'll be on my head and I won't complain. But yes, I was not comfortable in addressing (not answering) certain assumptions. I just didn't want to mislead people, but I also didn't want to confirm anything. Just a fuck up in the end, regardless of intents. Most of my reputation deals with non-epic fantasies, thankfully, and I'm not just a reviewer any more. More on that when the time is right, which might be the most ironic thing in all this, I suppose :P

But Tom, if you want to know, I can say yes/no to that in a NB.
