Rand goes to Far Madding to confront the borderlanders. Each of the rulers approaches him and strikes him in the face, but he manages to stay calm and not attack them. Then one of them asks him to tell them how Tellindal Tirraso died. Rand recognizes the name of someone he knew in the Age of Legends and tells them (it was someone Demandred killed with lightning). The Borderlanders than agree that he is the Dragon and will follow him. They had a prophecy that the Dragon Reborn must be confronted and if he could not take their attacks and stay calm or if he couldn't answer the question, they were supposed to kill him because he would destroy the world. Rand tells them that they're lucky he didn't come to them earlier because he'd have answered their their blows with balefire. When they point out that they're in Far Madding, he tells them that the True Power is not affected by the Guardian and with it he'd have destroyed them all.
