Finding out it was Graendal was so pointless. She had no interesting reason to kill him, there was no reason to keep it a secret for so long or have it be such a memorable scene. The whole thing was all setup with absolutely no payoff. At least give us a reason to care that it was Graendal, RJ, given that you made such a big deal of it (and yes, RJ did make a big deal of it. You can argue that it was the readers who blew it all out of proportion, but that was the result of RJ writing it/setting it up that way. If the solution didn't matter, why make a mystery in the first place?). Instead, we're left with a "oh, by the way, it was this character whose name I might as well have drawn out of a hat." It's such BS. He might as well have just revealed that it was Graendal in the actual death scene itself, or had her mention it in LOC rather than jerking our chains for 8 books.
Way too much drama for no payoff. If it was Graendal after all this time (who had no great motive to kill him ) at least we should have gotten some complex intricate backstory between him & her that we should have realized but never figured out. Instead she just offed him, no big deal, no special reason & it's funny how that seems to annoy Moridin and the Dark one NOW, but for the past 5 or whatever books never once was there the slightest implication of guilt laid at Graendal's feet. But oh suddenly the killer HAD to get revealed and Moridin makes a big stink about how she makes a habit of it and the Dark One isnt pleased.
Uh huh. Kinda too little too late.
At least if it was Lanfear there would SURE to be a VERY interesting answer as to how she killed him, with just have been killed. This way was soo boring it had to be spelled out in the Glossary, didnt even waste 2 pages with a backstory of any kind...
