It makes no sense that her hearts desire in WH and TPoD seems to be killing Rand (Moridin won't even let her near him for fear she'll kill him).

This is Lanfear we're talking about. She never loved Rand so much as she coveted him.
One scenario is that she still desires him, and has a plan (or wish) to simultaneously dominate and assist him. In that case, she might want Moridin to think she wants to kill Rand to disguise her true motive. The alternative (helping + converting Rand) is more dangerous to Moridin.
The other scenario is that she simply wants to kill Rand. But she'll enjoy it a lot more if she can make Rand desire her first, and maybe even slay him in a tender little post-coital scene.
