find some way to communicate with or use Mierin to learn more about the Bore. Remember, she is the only surviving person from the AOL who not only drilled the Bore, but was there when the DO exploded out of it. Her knoweledge could help Rand develop a way to seal away the DO completely and permanently.
That still would not explain why Rand wants to break the seals. Remember, he only has the dream at the end of the book, but he is planning on breaking the seals right from the start, even though at the time we KNOW (from his request to Min) that he does not yet know how to seal the DO away properly.
