Verin squirreled out of her oaths. Who says that Lanfear can't find a way to do the same? No, I don't think the DO would just "let her go", but isn't one of the big caveats that you have to WANT to be a Darkfriend (unless you're a channeler turned by a circle, and it's hard to judge there as well since we haven't seen it).
Verin took them to learn about and help defeat the Shadow. Lanfear wanted to be the Shadow.
