What exactly does it take to halt the progress of balefire?

1) If one were to shoot balefire into the air, would it ever end?

Yes, but not for the reason stated above, about channelers only being able to effect things within a certain distance. I believe that only applies to the creation of the weave - if you give it momentum, I don't see why it can't keep going. But unless the channelers are out in space, the balefire isn't moving through a vacuum - I believe that the amount of balefire would gradually reduce as it burns air molecules and midges and things like that out of existence.

2) How tough of a substance must it be to halt balefire? Can you balefire jello and then it halts or must it be a rock?

I don't see why a substance needs to be tough, or even solid, to stop balefire. To use it up, might be a more accurate way of putting it. It probably takes less balefire to destroy less dense objects, but we have no evidence either way.

3) Is it some substance that stops balefire, or is just a distance FROM the source of balefire wherein it will simply stop. ie: Like a fire hose spraying water, it will only go X number of feet, and after that number no farther.

I have no idea, but I think it does need to meet something solid to really be used up. Rand uses little arrows of balefire at the end of FoH, I believe, and they didn't stop until they hit shadowspawn. On the other hand, a powerful bar of balefire can certainly travel through a wall, and on to whatever is past it. I'm sure I've read of that happening, though I can't call a reference to mind.

4) Can you balefire balefire?

Yes. See the end of LoC. Ouch.

5) Does the air get balefired too? Might that not create a vacuum if a huge amount of balefire was used such as when Rand balefired Graendal's palace?

These are the questions that keep me up at night....lol

Isn't that what happened? A huge howling wind powerful enough to drag Graendal along the ground?

I think of it as having a finite amount of "energy" - 30/11/2010 10:56:05 AM 595 Views

5 miles unaided. And 5 miles x the strength multiplication of the Choedan Kal as a maximum. - 30/11/2010 04:37:21 PM 892 Views

I wasn't trying to nullify the calculation - I was making the point that saidin and saidar are equal - 30/11/2010 06:16:24 PM 549 Views
It's not that saidin is stronger than saidar at all... - 30/11/2010 06:51:01 PM 658 Views
