I think it was supposed to be heartbreaking that a child was spending his days

I read the sappy reviews that didn't even attempt to be critical and remember that one of them (Dragonmount, I believe), said there was a "heartbreaking scene" with Olver.
It led me to believe (well, let me be honest: it led me to HOPE) that Olver would be disemboweled by the gholam in such a way that he slowly died, and tell everyone how sorry he was to have failed them, and how he would missthe Scarecrow Mat most of all.
I didn't see anything from Olver that I even remotely cared about. Maybe the little shit will get balefired if we're lucky.

so focused on revenge. And while it was a surprise to know what Olver was thinking I think I did feel sorry for him. People forget what it was like to be a child and to have people think you don't know what they're talking about and treat you like you can't do anything, whether or not they are right or not is irrelevant, only a mature person can recognize their limitations and children can't do that and in all honesty probably shouldn't.
So...what was this "heartbreaking scene" with Olver in ToM?

There's really absolutely no point to his character if he isn't Gaidal Cain.

I can deal with the "spoiled" part (more or less) but it sure doesn't make him sympathetic. *NM*
