legal standing is one of the things I specifically mentioned peasants had and that slaves did not.
It's specifically mentioned in the books that peasants had no legal standing in Tear or Cairhien before Rand imposed a new justice system on them. Whether da'covale have legal standing is an interesting question; I certainly would find it odd if none of them did.
