It was ok. Not brilliant but certainly better than a lot of the middle ones. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 19/12/2010 11:28:32 AM
Really don't like Sanderson's writing style compared with Jordan's (and I never thought I'd say that). Sanderson doesn't draw you into the world like Jordan did. Yes, there's less of the boring "Oooh, what dress shall I wear today" stuff (although Sanderson did throw that in every now and then) but it almost didn't feel like it was in the same world. I miss the descriptions.

And so many important or emotional things happened ridiculously quickly. Maybe it's because there's so much to tie up, but Rand meeting Tam again was too short, though it made me cry; ditto the unveiling of Morgase to all of her children. "I'm still alive!" "Hooray! Now let's go." The only thing that took a long time was Perrin v Slayer and that was almost too long.

Finally, most of the characters were flat, flat, flat. That's something I've seen in the only other Sanderson I've read (Mistborn) and I've been told he got better at that. I guess not?

That said. There were some utterly glorious moments where I was delighted. Nynaeve = lovely, new Rand = lovely, Nakomi = interesting. I always liked Faile (one of the few, I know) and she and Perrin were great in this book.

Overall, a lot happened and we're well set up for the Last Battle. But I wasn't as impressed with this one as I was with TGS.
