Well there you have it, then... Shannow Send a noteboard - 04/01/2011 09:24:38 AM
I over-quoted; Dominic's posts have dealt with the issue of the ter'angreal. I'm specifically wondering where you got the idea that the paralis-net is only the weave-unraveling piece: as you further go on to say:
Also, Cadsuane has a whole bunch of stuff in her hairnet. They seem to be a collection of random angreal and ter'angreal. The "paralis net" seems likely to refer to the "net" in her hair itself. The little bird ornament is something seperate, as are some of the other stuff she's collected, no doubt.

It stretches credulity, particularly after Rand's comments in TOM51, to think that the set of jewelry does not comprise a paralis-net but merely contains one among various other junk.

Rand smiled. "And you're wearing a full paralis-net in your hair, which includes a Well. I'm certain you keep it full, and that should be enough to create a single gateway."
Cadsuane's face grew expressionless. "I've never heard of a paralis-net."
"Cadsuane Sedai," Rand said softly. "Your net has a few ornaments I don't recognize—I suspect it is a Breaking-era creation. But I was there when the first ones were designed, and I wore the original male version."

The little bird that detects male channeling is obviously one of the ornaments that Rand did not recognize. Particularly because Demandred didn't recognize it either.

As to what a FULL paralis net is - maybe it is a ter'angreal like Mat's ORIGINAL medallion, which unravels weaves FULLY, as opposed to a partial one which would be similar to Elayne's weak copies of Mat's medallion, which can only unravel weak weaves.

However, thats where Cyndane's unfamiliarity with weave dissolving ter'angreal would be a problem.

In truth, there is only one logical conclusion, that fits all the quotes.

The paralis net itself existed during the War of Power. Lews Therin wore the first male version. However, the paralis net itself:

Does NOT detect male channeling and does NOT unravel weaves. Those two functions are fulfilled by some of Cadsuane's additional ornaments, which Lews Therin could not identify.

The paralis net therefore does something ELSE, probably associated with Cadsuane's well, since Lews Therin specifically associated it with Cadsuane being able to channel in Far Madding.

This is therefore the solution. Saidin detection and weave unravelling are not functions of the paralis net. They are functions of some of Cadsuane's other ornaments, which did not exist in the Age of Legends.
