I agree with you, but am more willing to live with it just to see the end of the series.
I attribute it to more to a difference in writing style and internalization of the story betreen RJ and BS, than to any lack of skill on BS's part. I've read his other novels and enjoyed them.
What BS has been asked to do, and as well as he has managed to do it deserves our respect and understanding. Yes the characters are a little "off" in tone, and many of the small details of the writing do not match what we are used to; but it is either that or we never find out the end of the story.
Simply enjoy the last books for what they are, the best of a BAD situation.
