it is feasible that Egwene happened to "rediscover" how to make it in a different way. You know, more than one way to skin a cat and all that jazz. Maybe, for whatever reason, the easier method she uses now was simply not the method used back then. There are any number of reasons why this could be the case, some more believable than others.

Then of course, there's the caveat that the Pattern may have "inspired" her for the purposes of The Last Battle. Really, when in doubt, that can explain a lot of the "ease" the characters have :P That's the joy of fantasy! Illogical easiness :P
