Graendal has been shown throughout the series using people for her own enjoyment in any way she pleases. Her fate, while not something I would wish on anyone, is certainly befitting her past actions.
I'd agree with RugbyPlayingAshaman that it didn't come off as horrific as it maybe was intended, and instead once again made the Shadow seem kind of petty, but it does work well as just punishment for Graendal (sort of in the vein of Halima's resurrection)
